Schedule of events for the 30th Annual AAFRO Festival and Trade Show

On July 9-12, First Community Interfaith Institute of Ohio will once again host the 30th Annual AAFRO (African Americans for the Respect of Others)Festival and Trade Show in Elyria, Ohio. Hotel accomodations have yet to be finalized, but here is the complete schedule of events for the four day weekend:

Thursday July 9
8 am: Prefestival meeting-- Kanisa House, 142 Cleveland St, Elyria
1-3 pm: Opening celebration
6-8 pm: Lucy Battle "Unity in the Community Day"--Kanisa House

Friday July 10
9 am: Trade Show--Lorain County Community College, Spitzer Center
12 pm: Trade Show Luncheon--LCCC, Spitzer Center
1:30 pm: Trade Show workshops--LCCC, Spitzer Center
6 pm: Elizabeth Coleman Dinner--LCCC, Spitzer Center (awards presentation and entertainment)

Saturday July 11
9 am: Ruth Hamilton "Family Unity Community Day-- LCCC, Ewing Center (recreation)
12 pm: Ruth Hamilton Luncheon--LCCC, Spitzer Center
1:30 pm: Workshops-- LCCC, Spitzer Center
6 pm-- Martha Jordan Dinner-- LCCC, Spitzer Center (Minister Lawrance Lee Evans is keynote speaker)

Sunday July 12
9-11 am: Gladys Evans activities and Family Worship Hour--Kanisa House

First Community Interfaith Institute of Ohio, located in Elyria, Ohio (23 miles southwest of Cleveland) is once again sponsoring the newly renamed Minister Akilah Ife Evans Festival.  The festival will take place July 12-15 at two venues: Kanisa House (the headquarters of FCII Ohio) and Lorain County Community College. Minister Lawrance Lee Evans Sr. is now an ancestor!

The Rochester (NY) community and the Elyria (OH) community are saddened by the passing of a distinguished scholar, researcher, community organizer, teacher, case manager, and clergyman, the renowned Minister Lawrance Lee Evans Sr, who transitioned on Sunday, September 9. from a brief illness.

This morning (September 14, 2018) will be his homegoing service at Aenon Baptist Church, 175 Genesee Street, Rochester NY 14611.

Please keep the Minister's immediate and extended family, and the First Community Interfaith Institute of Rochester and Elyria in your prayers.

First Fruits at First Community Interfaith Institute Inc will end with the beginning of Kwanzaa according to Dr. Maulana Karenga. Starting on Wednesday, December 26, 2018  until December 31 at 6 PM, the Institute's students, members and supporters will reflect on the first six principles of the Nguzo Saba  (unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose and creativity).
